Registered Nurse- PRN

About the role

The Registered Nurse (RN) works with team partners, using the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate direct patient care. As a member of the Patient Care Team, the RN provides hands-on care, makes sound clinical decisions, and delivers comprehensive care to each individual patient.

Responsibilities

• Possesses competency in the use of technology, computers, and Smart Pumps.
• Demonstrates competency in administering medication and knowledge of unit-specific equipment.
• Organizes patient care and unit activities, delegating tasks to staff as appropriate.
• Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team in planning patient care from admission to discharge.
• Consistently participates in a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
• Follows evidence-based policies and procedures to guide nursing practice.
• Demonstrates best practices such as huddles, hourly rounding, bedside reporting, Service Excellence principles, and use of whiteboards.
• Understands and responds appropriately to cultural variables in professional and patient interactions.
• Evaluates ethical challenges and their impact on patient care and professional role.
• Uses the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the plan of care.
• Performs initial and ongoing assessments, documenting appropriately.
• Interprets and implements physician orders.
• Competently performs or assists with routinely performed procedures.
• Educates patients and families, documenting appropriately.
• Documents accurately according to department policy.
• Actively participates in the implementation of the Unit Performance Improvement (PI) plan.
• Makes suggestions and recommendations for improved operations.

Requirements

• Graduate of a School of Nursing.
• Current Louisiana Registered Nurse license or compact state license as a Registered Nurse.
• BLS-CPR Certified.
• Ability to read, write, and speak intelligible English.
• Ability to learn quickly, analyze problems, and communicate effectively with superiors, peers, and others.
• Emotional stability, resilience, adaptability to change, decisiveness, and foresight.
• Receptive to delegated responsibilities and possesses basic problem-solving skills.

Physical Demands

• Work requires sustained standing, walking, bending, and stooping.
• Lifting of 50-100 pounds at a time may be required.
• Work environment may be physically confining.
• Acute hearing ability required for nursing skills (e.g., using a stethoscope).
• Ability to exchange accurate information with patients, families, peers, and medical personnel.
