Registered Nurse, Pre/Post-Op- Twin Cities Orthopedics
This is a part-time, .8 FTE role, Monday through Friday, swing shifts with 5:00 AM - 10:30 AM start, 8-hour shifts, out of our Plymouth Orthopedic Surgery Center.
About the Role
Twin Cities Orthopedics is an operating division of Infinite Health Collaborative (i-Health), a group of local medical practices, owned and led by its physicians, on a mission to give patients more control over their healthcare. The Pre-Op/PACU Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for delivering optimum quality care to patients while in Pre-Op, PACU, and Phase II of the Surgery Center.
Responsibilities
- Assess physical, psychological, spiritual, cultural, educational, and developmental dimensions of the patient from pre-op phone call through patient discharge and provide written documentation of these findings.
- Evaluate and document patient condition and responses to nursing and/or medical interventions and communicate the information appropriately.
- Complete pre-operative phone calls, H&P (History and Physical) reviews, and provide appropriate admission requirements/instructions.
- Assess patient needs and supplies/equipment required for pain management procedures, patient needs, and physician preferences.
- Complete post-operative phone calls, providing care and direction as appropriate.
- Develop and provide an individualized plan of care based on nursing assessment, medical diagnosis, knowledge of specific illnesses, injuries, diseases, surgical procedures, and appropriate standards of care.
- Collaborate with other disciplines and departments to maximize patient outcomes and ensure a smooth flow of the perioperative experience.
- Provide care in an age-appropriate manner, knowledgeable of the psychological, physiological, and spiritual needs of patients.
- Function within the limits of the MN Nurse Practice Act, State and Federal Laws, the ASC, Pre-op/PACU Department philosophies, policies, procedures, and standards of care.
- Label and administer medications and solutions as ordered. Apply principles of aseptic technique, standard, and transmission precautions.
- Function effectively in emergency situations and when under stress.
- Monitor patients utilizing sound nursing judgment and competent knowledge of equipment based on policies and procedures from patient admission to discharge.
- Provide emotional support and comfort for patients/family members, inform family of patient status, and provide patient and family education.
- Assist with procedures (e.g., pain management, blocks, conscious sedation).
- Follow proper channels of communication and inform department managers of unit activity, patient condition, and concerns.
- Reassess, evaluate, and revise the implementation of the plan of care to meet the changing needs of the patient. Respond appropriately to changes in the patient’s condition and/or behavior.
- Complete accurate, legible, and timely documentation of all patient care delivered at the Surgery Center as indicated per policy.
- Accountable for reporting occurrences through the center’s established reporting process related to employee and/or patient/visitor events.
- Foster the developmental and educational process of self, colleagues, orientees, and students (includes functioning as a preceptor).
- Participate in acceptable continuing education, fostering career and skill development, including meeting departmental continuing education requirements.
- Assist in managing controllable costs by the proper, non-wasteful use of surgery center resources.
- Perform any and all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Graduate of an NLN accredited school of registered nursing.
- Current licensure as an RN in the State of MN or WI multi-state required.
- One year of nursing experience in PACU or other critical care nursing experience in the last 5 years preferred.
- Current member of the American Society of Post Anesthesia Nurses preferred.
- Current CPR/ACLS/PALS certification required or completed upon hire.

Working Conditions
- Frequently lift up to 50 pounds independently and occasionally up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, and move continuously throughout the shift.
- Must be able to frequently perform physical activities such as pushing, pulling, and reaching.
- Visual acuity to read electronic and paper documents.
- Auditory ability to participate in phone or video calls clearly.
- Manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment (e.g., computer, phone, printer).
Pay
Actual starting pay will vary based on education, skills, and experience. The pay range displayed reflects full-time compensation and will be prorated for employees working less than a full-time schedule.
