About the role
The Day Surgery Nurse directs and manages nursing care in the ambulatory surgery unit, Ensures that patients are admitted and discharged efficiently and consistently.
Responsibilities
- Assists with admission and discharge processes to ensure efficient throughput and high quality, patient-centered care
- Participates in the ongoing assessment of the quality of patient care services provided in the facility, in collaboration with other members of the management team
- Serves as a preceptor/mentor and works directly with new employees to fulfill planned orientation to the unit

Requirements
- NJ RN License
- BLS
- ACLS
- Preferred Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- 1 year Inpatient Nursing Experience
- Certified Ambulatory Surgery Nurse (CNAMB)
- Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia Nurse (CAPA)
Qualifications
- Knowledge and skills required to provide care to patients and families of all age groups (neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric), dependent upon care setting
- The ability to adapt quickly to rapid patient turnover and diverse patient needs is crucial
- Strong interpersonal skills for clear communication with patients, families, and the surgical team
- The ability to use problem-solving techniques and critical thinking to ensure high-quality patient care

Skills
- Measuring and recording patients' vital signs
- Updating charts, patient files, and medical records
- Performing post-discharge phone calls
- Communicating operating room activities to facilitate efficiency in the surgical case progression and turnover between cases
- Implementing safe, competent, and efficient patient and family care within policies, procedures, and standards of care plan to the perioperative patient's level of complexity
- Recognizing potential problems and responding to general information/data indicating urgent and/or emergent risk to the patient
- Assuming responsibility and accountability for effectively managing the care of responses and/or solutions to patient problems
- Evaluating patient's responses to care based on effectiveness of nursing interventions/actions in relationship to established goals
- Initiating changes in the interdisciplinary care plan based on this evaluation
- Problem solving with the specialty team to improve patient outcomes
- Identifying learning needs of patients/families and teaching by adapting standard information based on needs
- Communicating with patient and family to identify their needs and includes them in the plan of care
- Acknowledging and supporting determinations by the patient and/or family concerning treatment
- Assuming responsibility for meeting own learning needs and assessing the learning needs of the unit
- Making sound judgments in the decisions involved in coordinating multiple, increasingly complex patient care demands
- Supervising delegated care based on abilities of nursing staff and patient acuity
- Planning, directing, and evaluating unit activities as a trauma/triage charge nurse as warranted
- Participating in and facilitating the change process to enable continued growth and improvement in patient care
- Supporting a culture of continuous improvement
- Participating in the development of the Surgical Services Department goals
- Participating in committees/meetings as delegated
