About the role

The Registered Professional Nurse (Per Diem) is a licensed professional nurse providing care within Hofstra University’s Student Health Services in an ambulatory care setting. The role involves performing routine office procedures and testing, administering medications, patient triage, teaching, referral, and follow-up care. The RN supports the overall assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.

Responsibilities

• Assesses and triages patients in an ambulatory care setting consistent with health services policies and philosophies.
• Identifies nursing needs of the patient and delivers care as defined by the nursing practice parameters of the NY state licensing board.
• Promotes service standards and creates a patient-focused caring environment while addressing individual patient needs.
• Assesses patient’s education needs and provides instructions or referrals to appropriate providers.
• Communicates effectively with the healthcare team to improve patient care.
• Demonstrates patient advocacy, ensuring patients’ rights to privacy, safety, and confidentiality.
• Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for individual nursing practice, including nursing judgment and actions.
• Fosters collaboration and respect with nurse practitioners, physicians, nurses, NP students, faculty, and other healthcare team members.
• Maintains compassionate and caring relationships with colleagues and others, with a commitment to fair treatment and integrity.
• Preserves integrity and safety, maintains competence, and continues personal and professional growth.
• Independently performs assigned duties and responsibilities.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Outreach and Education

• Seeks educational opportunities for professional growth and shares information with staff as appropriate.
• Maintains active membership in national and regional professional health organizations.
• Attends and/or participates in University meetings and in-service offerings as needed.
• Serves as an advocate for student health on campus, including communication of information about Student Health Services to the student population.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, with a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree.
• Active, current unencumbered New York State Registered Nurse license.
• A minimum of two years of experience as an RN, with at least one year in an ambulatory care or emergency department setting.
• Basic Life Support certification.

Pay

$48.00 per hour
