Registered Nurse, Per Diem, 11a-12a, Operating Room, Atlantic Health Morristown Medical Center
About the role
Responsible for general nursing activities in the operating room. The perioperative nurse is the registered nurse who, using the nursing process, designs, coordinates, and delivers care to meet the identified needs of patients undergoing operative or other invasive procedures. This role establishes, ensures, and supervises surgical team members and procedures to maintain quality services and efficient operations.
Promotes and restores patient’s health by completing the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; providing physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families; and supervising assigned team members. Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families.
Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments; and following hospital and nursing division’s philosophies and standards of care set by state board of nursing, state nurse practice act, and other governing agency regulations.
Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; and calling for assistance from health care support personnel. Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols; medication administration and storage procedures; and controlled substance regulations.
Maintains continuity among nursing teams by documenting as per policy and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs utilizing SBAR while maintaining patient confidentiality. Ensures proper function and operation of equipment following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshoots malfunctions; calls for repairs; and evaluates new equipment as necessary.
Ensures case readiness by confirming that supplies, equipment, instruments, and implants are available as per surgical procedure and doctor preferences. Ensures fiscal responsibility by accurately documenting and charging for supplies. Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education and organization and unit mandates. Achieves and maintains professional certification as required.
Contributes to team efforts and high-quality, safe patient outcomes through collaboration with peers, supervisors, surgeons, and anesthesiologists. Promotes all PRIDE values.

- Confirm case readiness by verifying supplies, equipment, instruments, and implants.
- Accurately document and charge for supplies to ensure fiscal responsibility.
- Maintain professional knowledge through continuing education and certifications.
- Collaborate with peers, supervisors, surgeons, and anesthesiologists for high-quality outcomes.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (required).
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (preferred).
- All ASN-prepared nurses must complete their BSN within five years of their start date.
- Current New Jersey Registered Nurse License (required).
- Basic Life Support certification (required).
- CNOR certification (preferred).
- Minimum of 1 year Operating Room RN experience.
