Registered Nurse - PACU (PRN)
Essential Functions
Affords nursing care to patients in a same-day surgery setting. Assumes full responsibility for patient care in compliance with physician's orders and center policies. Monitors and manages supply usage and billing.
- Maintains rapport with physicians and other departments providing care.
- Administers medications and treatments as ordered by physicians.
- Carefully documents symptoms, reactions, and changes in patients' conditions.
- Accurately discharges post-operative patients according to facility policies.
- Administers pain and nausea medications as needed.
- Maintains patient and employee confidentiality.
- Provides psychological support to patients and families.
- Ensures accurate documentation of charges for medications and supplies.
- Functions independently in emergency situations.
- Maintains competence through ongoing education.
- Assists in the orientation of new employees.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Accurately assesses patients' needs for pain and nausea medication.
- Always follows orders before administering medication.
- Documents medications administered.
- Maintains patient and employee privacy.
- Communicates effectively with physicians and other departments.
- Performs routine charging of medications and supplies.
- Maintains supplies and cleanliness in the work environment.
- Makes logical, quick decisions based on sound judgment.
- Maintains competence through continuing education.
- Maintains required CEU re-licensure.
