Registered Nurse - PACU (PRN)

Essential Functions

Affords nursing care to patients in a same-day surgery setting. Assumes full responsibility for patient care in compliance with physician's orders and center policies. Monitors and manages supply usage and billing.

• Maintains rapport with physicians and other departments providing care.
• Administers medications and treatments as ordered by physicians.
• Carefully documents symptoms, reactions, and changes in patients' conditions.
• Accurately discharges post-operative patients according to facility policies.
• Administers pain and nausea medications as needed.
• Maintains patient and employee confidentiality.
• Provides psychological support to patients and families.
• Ensures accurate documentation of charges for medications and supplies.
• Functions independently in emergency situations.
• Maintains competence through ongoing education.
• Assists in the orientation of new employees.

• Accurately assesses patients' needs for pain and nausea medication.
• Always follows orders before administering medication.
• Documents medications administered.
• Maintains patient and employee privacy.
• Communicates effectively with physicians and other departments.
• Performs routine charging of medications and supplies.
• Maintains supplies and cleanliness in the work environment.
• Makes logical, quick decisions based on sound judgment.
• Maintains competence through continuing education.
• Maintains required CEU re-licensure.
