Registered Nurse - PACU (Full-Time)
Essential Functions
- Affords nursing care to patients in a same day surgery setting.
- Assumes full responsibility for patient care in line with physician's orders and center policies.
- Maintains control over supply usage and charges within the center.
- Reports all symptoms, reactions, abnormalities, and changes in patients' conditions to relevant parties.
- Administers medications and treatments prescribed by physicians.
- Carefully discharges post-operative patients according to facility policies.
- Administers pain and nausea medication as needed, ensuring that orders precede medication administration and documenting all actions.
- Maintains patient and employee confidentiality.
- Provides psychological support to patients and their families.
- Maintains rapport with physicians and other departments involved in patient care.
- Admits patients to the sit-up area.
- Accurately charges medications and supplies.
- Ensures accurate documentation of charge sheets.
- Assists in the orientation of new employees.
- Maintains supplies and cleanliness in the work environment.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Accurately assesses the need for pain and/or nausea medication.
- Knows the intended actions and side effects of medications.
- Documents medication administration accurately.
- Maintains patient and employee privacy and confidential information.
- Provides psychological support to patients and/or families.
- Maintains rapport with physicians and other departments providing care for the patients.
- Performs emergency situations with logical and quick decision-making.
- Maintains competence through continuing education.
- Maintains compliance with CEU re-licensure requirements.
- Assists in the orientation of new employees with factual information regarding current departmental policies.
