About the role

The Outpatient Oncology Clinical Nurse II serves in a leadership role and delivers direct patient care to an adult Oncology outpatient population, with a focus on Head & Neck Oncology patients. This experienced and highly skilled nurse possesses in-depth knowledge of the cancer disease process, major treatment modalities, symptom management, supportive care, and patient education. The role proactively embraces Oncology Nursing Society Standards of Oncology Nursing practice, utilizing the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. The nurse employs an interdisciplinary approach across the care continuum, adhering to National Patient Safety Goals and regulatory requirements. As a clinical resource, the nurse contributes to the advancement of the unit and organization.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for oncology patients, ensuring adherence to Oncology Nursing Society standards.
  • Manage treatment-related toxicities, including immune-related adverse events for patients receiving chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and/or biologic agents.
  • Provide symptom management, patient education, and care coordination in the ambulatory setting.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and support the operational needs of the unit and organization.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care across settings.
  • Perform duties flexibly across all UCSF Medical Center locations as operationally needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum three (3) years of total RN experience.
  • Minimum one (1) year of oncology nursing experience (medical oncology, infusion oncology, or hematology/oncology) within the last 3 years, including experience caring for patients receiving chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and/or biologic agents.
  • Minimum one (1) year of outpatient or ambulatory RN experience within the last two (2) years.
  • Demonstrated clinical judgment in assessing and managing oncology treatment-related symptoms, patient education, and care coordination in the ambulatory setting.
  • Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) or more years of recent oncology nursing experience in the last three (3) years, preferably caring for patients with head and neck cancers or other complex solid tumor populations.
  • OCN Certification or other relevant specialty certification.
  • One (1) or more years of Telephone Triage nursing experience.
  • Minimum one (1) year of inpatient RN experience.
  • Experience with Clinical Research or Clinical Trials.
  • BSN degree.

Licensure/Certifications

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
  • Active American Heart Association CPR card.
