Registered Nurse Outpatient Clinic Cardiology

About the Role

Office Nurse II diagnoses and treats patient responses to actual or potential health problems through services such as case finding, health teaching, health counseling, provision of care supportive to or restorative of life and well-being, and executing medical regimens prescribed by a licensed physician, physician's assistant, or nurse practitioner. A nursing regimen shall be consistent with and shall not vary from any existing medical regimen. This position reports to the AMS-Director of Nursing and Clinical Services.

Responsibilities

• Assesses and cares for patients under the direction of a provider.
• Supervises care of licensed practical nurses and medical assistants in the office setting.
• Performs accurate triage and assessment of patient problems, prioritizes care, and recognizes changes in patient status.
• Keeps provider informed of changes in plan of care.
• Provides comprehensive education to patients on new procedures, medications, etc., and documents.
• Documents accurate, concise information in the patient's EMR record in a timely manner.
• Schedules follow-up visits, consultations, referred testing, and surgeries as per provider orders.
• Is competent to perform/assist provider with patient diagnostic testing and procedures in the office setting, if required.
• Demonstrates competency in medication administration with provider order.
• Performs all aspects of universal precautions when in patient care and maintains current Infection Control Certification as required.
• Interacts with patients in a friendly and caring way, being attentive to their needs both psychologically and physically, and maintains communication to provide a secure and pleasant experience.

Requirements

• Graduate of an approved RN program with current New York State or Pennsylvania licensure.
• Previous nursing experience in a medical office setting preferred.
• Excellent communication and writing ability.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire date.

Physical Demands

• Employee required to be on his/her feet much of the time, with some lifting, reaching, and stooping involved.

Infection Control

• Performs all aspects of universal precautions when engaging in patient care.
• Exposure Category: Category I. Tasks that involve exposure to blood and body fluids/tissue.
