About the Role

Orthopedics (Seton 2) is a dynamic, 24-bed inpatient orthopedic surgical unit specializing in elective and emergent surgeries, including total knee and hip replacements, shoulder, and spinal procedures. The unit has telemetry monitoring capacity and emphasizes collaboration, communication, and patient-centered care. Nurses are respected as clinical partners, directly influencing diagnostic quality and treatment outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional, comprehensive nursing care for patients in an acute care environment, delivering coordinated, safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care.
  • Assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, developing and updating individualized care plans to optimize outcomes and transitions.
  • Monitor, record, and communicate patient conditions effectively.
  • Advocate for ethical and holistic care, partnering in care planning to promote patient autonomy, dignity, rights, values, and beliefs.
  • Foster a learning environment for patients, families, nursing staff, and the healthcare team, facilitating both formal and informal education.
  • Align practice with safety and quality standards, integrating evidence and best practices to improve patient outcomes.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development, practicing at the top of licensure within legal and ethical parameters.
  • Demonstrate leadership as a change agent, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care and model professional behaviors.
  • Participate in planning and presenting educational programs.
  • Utilize information technology, such as electronic health records and communication systems, proficiently.
  • Work effectively within an interdisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff.
  • Use independent, critical judgment in all aspects of patient care delivery.
  • Manage multiple responsibilities, urgent responses, and challenging situations with a positive and supportive attitude.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
  • BSN in Nursing preferred; previously agreed-upon timelines for obtaining a BSN remain in effect.
  • BLS certification required.
  • ACLS and PALS certifications are unit-dependent.
  • At least one year of RN experience, or transition from the Newly Licensed Registered Nurse Residency (NLRN) Program with less than one year of experience.
  • Maintain required certifications and meet unit-specific educational requirements during employment.
