Join the 6 West Ortho/Trauma Unit at UPMC Western Maryland, a 36-bed unit designated for orthopedic, trauma, neurological, and medical-surgical patients. Ten private rooms are dedicated to total knee and hip replacement patients. Responsibilities

• Model safe work hours, time management, and a healthy lifestyle while communicating safety hazards to peers and management.
• Apply knowledge of adult learning principles to educate patients, families, students, and new staff.
• Provide detailed and appropriate teaching to patients and families to guide them through care transitions.
• Support the development of students, new staff, and colleagues; may serve as a preceptor.
• Foster an environment of open dialogue, inquiry, and continuous development by seeking feedback and improving practice.
• Apply the nursing process within the framework of Relationship Based Care to create a healing environment.
• Formulate daily goals and individualized care plans in partnership with patients, considering holistic needs.
• Ensure comprehensive patient documentation to promote communication among caregivers.
• Incorporate national professional organization goals, as well as unit and health system objectives, to improve patient safety, quality, and satisfaction.
• Actively participate in unit-based shared governance, goal setting, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Serve as a full partner on the care team, assisting colleagues as needed.
• Identify and address opportunities for quality improvement.
• Take personal responsibility for improving patient satisfaction with care and service.
• Utilize research and evidence-based practice to enhance clinical care and influence patient plans of care.

Requirements

• Zero to two years of experience.
• BSN preferred.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with executives, managers, physicians, providers, staff, departments, and patients/families.
• Ability to work productively in a complex environment, manage multiple priorities, and operate specialized equipment.

Qualifications

• Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in the state where the facility is located or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement.
• CPR certification based on AHA standards, including didactic and skills demonstration, within 30 days of hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
• Graduate Nurses have 90 days from graduation to obtain RN licensure.
• UPMC-approved national certification preferred.
