Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited program (required)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (preferred)
  • Three years previous experience in acute OR setting, with at least 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the Orthopedic specialty area (preferred)
  • Current, valid RN license in state of practice or equivalent per state regulations
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or obtained within 90 days of hire
  • Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or obtained within 90 days of hire
  • Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or obtained within 90 days of hire

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe patient care within the peri-op unit, including proper patient identification, time outs, resources, and supplies to maintain a safe environment
  • Serve as a resource to teammates, support services, and physicians; work alongside scrub to help maintain the sterile field in the operating room
  • Promote and support growth of others through precepting, mentoring, and orientation; serve as a positive clinical role model to facilitate staff development
  • Maintain a clean and organized surgical area; remove instruments and sponges during procedures
  • Assist in room turnover process to ensure the surgical room is sterile and safe for the patient
  • Maintain environment and supply inventory, including procurement of necessary supplies and equipment
  • Prepare the patient for procedures and educate them before surgery; participate in patient handoff during transitions
  • Engage in process improvement and work processes to meet departmental metrics and goals
  • Assess the patient’s condition before surgery and collaborate with physicians to develop care plans
  • Monitor surgical procedures and act as an intermediary between the operating room staff and the rest of the hospital
  • Ensure efficient and cost-effective use of departmental resources to provide safe, quality care
