About the role
The Operating Room Nurse position at Capital Health is a dynamic role requiring both circulating and scrub responsibilities. Shifts are typically 12 hours long, including weekends and holidays, with occasional on-call commitments.
Responsibilities
- Delivers quality care through teamwork, applying the nursing process.
- Affirms patient safety by adhering to established policies and procedures.
- Supports pain management and implements pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
- Assists patients and families in identifying personalized comfort measures.
- Follows up on interventions from other departments and mobilizes resources for complex cases.
- Provides information and coping mechanisms to patients and families.
- Adapts to patient needs and communicates effectively during handoffs.
- Identifies and addresses patient education needs related to medication management.
- Develops and documents a comprehensive discharge plan.
- Sees the big picture and adjusts staffing patterns as needed.
- Attends educational sessions to enhance professional development.
- Participates in various committees and performance improvement activities.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and participates in readiness for accreditation.
- Contributes to improving patient satisfaction and understanding HCAAPS measurements.
Requirements
- Education: Associate’s degree or graduate from an accredited nursing program.
- Experience: No prior nursing experience required, but previous experience is preferred.
- Certifications: AHA BLS - Healthcare Provider, Registered Nurse - NJ, TNCC, NIH Stroke Scale Certification, ACLS, NRP, PALS.
- Training: Participates in educational sessions and completes required continuing nursing education credits.
- Physical Demands: Frequent physical demands include pushing/pulling, twisting, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, crawling, pinching, fine motor activities, keyboard use, repetitive motion, taste/smell, sitting, climbing, standing, walking, carrying objects, talking, hearing.
- Sensory Requirements: Very accurate vision, near vision, far vision, color discrimination, accurate depth perception, accurate hearing.
- Occupational Exposure Risks: Bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, airborne communicable diseases, dust/particulate matter.
