About the role

As a Registered Nurse at Hackensack Meridian Health, you will function as a caregiver for a specific patient population to achieve desired outcomes. This position focuses on expanding knowledge and skills, providing effective direct care as part of the interdisciplinary team to a variety of complex patients. You will direct and oversee care provided by other caregivers through delegation, validation, evaluation, and coordination, while effectively coordinating patient care and unit activities among nursing peers, physicians, and support services.

Responsibilities

  • Collect comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or situation, performing age and disease-specific assessments independently and systematically.
  • Recognize clinical and diagnostic status changes in patient conditions and identify patient/family education needs based on age, disease, and culturally specific learning differences.
  • Develop a plan of care that prescribes strategies and interventions to attain expected outcomes, formulating patient/family-centered goals and coordinating care across the continuum.
  • Communicate, coordinate, and implement the plan of care, providing ongoing updates to the patient, family, and healthcare team.
  • Implement age and disease-specific care in an organized and timely manner, including patient/family education and ensuring understanding.
  • Perform nursing care and treatments reflecting patient needs, advocating appropriately, and demonstrating evidence-based practice and compliance with standards.
  • Document patient assessments, plans of care, interventions, and evaluations using Point-of-Care electronic systems.
  • Administer medications utilizing bar-scanning and documentation technologies to ensure safe delivery.
  • Facilitate multi-disciplinary discharge planning to ensure safe transitions and continuum of care.
  • Evaluate progress toward outcomes, utilizing critical thinking to achieve desired patient results.
  • Initiate interventions for changes in patient condition and unexpected responses to care.
  • Identify and address ethical issues in practice, enhancing patient satisfaction where possible.
  • Maintain required competencies, certifications, and continuing education to meet facility accreditation and licensing requirements.
  • Adhere to the American Nurses Association Code for Nurses with Interpretive Statements and HMH's Organizational and Managerial competencies.
  • Perform physical tasks including lifting a minimum of 35 lbs., pushing/pulling a minimum of 10 lbs., and standing for at least 6 hours per day.
  • Complete other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License.
  • AHA BLS/CPR certification required within 60 days of hire.
  • BSN in progress and/or willingness to acquire within three (3) years of hire (applies to team members hired on or after November 2019).
  • Six (6) or more months of relevant critical care or OR nursing experience OR active participation in Hackensack Meridian Health's Nurse Residency Program.

Pay

The minimum starting rate of pay for this role is $46.25 per hour. The posted rate is a reasonable good faith estimate and may vary based on factors such as labor market data, experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, internal equity, and budget considerations. Full-time and part-time positions (20+ hours/week) may be eligible for shift differentials, performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions. Certain roles may also qualify for additional benefits such as health, dental, vision, paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and retirement benefits.
