NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center, providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The hospital facility is home to the Knapp Cardiac Care Center—an advanced heart disease diagnostic and treatment facility—as well as a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services including women's imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery.

Our Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center delivers comprehensive and specialized care for patients with traumatic injuries. The Stroke Center at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is designated by the New York State Department of Health as a Primary Stroke Center, with expert neurologists available to provide treatment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Registered Nurse - Operating Room - Full Time Days. In this role, the successful candidate executes professional nursing care in accordance with physician treatment plans in order to provide for the comfort and well-being of patients and their family or support system.

Responsibilities

The registered nurse collects patient health data by involving the patient, family and other health care providers, performs initial assessment based on patient's presentation, and records relevant data on the nursing component of the Interdisciplinary Admission Assessment.

• Assesses the patient's needs, plans and implements the treatment plan, observes and evaluates the patient's progress and documents pertinent observations.
• Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary health team to meet the holistic needs of the patient.
• Directs the delivery of nursing care by the other members of the nursing team.
• Participates in the orientation process of new employees.
• Develops a plan of care that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcome.
• Collaborates with the patient, family and appropriate healthcare providers in developing the plan of care.
• Implements the plan of care for each patient and performs appropriate patient monitoring.
• Adapts nursing procedures to meet the needs of the individual patient.
• Provides education to the patient and family utilizing the educational assessment.
• Recognizes hazards to patient safety and takes action to maintain a safe environment.

Requirements

• Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice acquired through completion of a two year training at an accredited School of Nursing.
• Current New York State license as a Registered Professional Nurse.
• BLS certification and de-escalation training.
• ACLS (ICU, Float pool, Emergency Dept) and TCAR Certification (SICU, PACU) as required.
• Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with patients and their families that demonstrate recognition of cultural diversity.
• Ability to clearly communicate in verbal and written format.
• Analytical ability to assess and develop solutions to clinical situations or unit problems.

Qualifications

• For ED RN: 1 year Med Surg experience.
• For Med Surg Float Pool: 1 year Med Surg experience.
• For Critical Care: 1 year ICU/SDU experience.
• For ASU RN: 1 year critical care experience preferred.
• BSN preferred.
• PALS preferred.
• Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia (e.g. CAPA) preferred.
• 1 year of nursing experience in preoperative, perioperative, or post-anesthesia care preferred.
• Experience in patient assessment, education, and care planning for pre and post-operative patients preferred.
• Prior experience in discharge planning and coordination of perioperative patients preferred.
• Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems, including documentation of patient assessments, treatment plans, and discharge instructions preferred.

Pay

The salary range for the role is $111,370.88 - $144,120.88 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
