About the Role

At Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, Registered Nurses are critical members of the team who diagnose and treat responses to actual or potential health problems through nursing methods and techniques such as case finding, health teaching, and counseling. Incumbents provide care supporting and restorative of health and well-being while adhering to a medical regimen.

Responsibilities

  • Administration of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy & Blood Products.
  • Cross-train in Infusion and Oncology and physical practice.
  • Assess the patient’s condition and nursing needs; coordinate nursing care activities with other health disciplines involved in the treatment effort.
  • Develop a written individualized care plan, including teaching needs and discharge planning.
  • Administer direct care when professional nursing skills and judgment are needed.
  • Administer medication and practice infection control.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Assume responsibility and accountability for the delivery of nursing care to all assigned patients.
  • Communicate changes in patient’s condition and questions regarding patient care to Charge RN/Clinician.
  • Develop and maintain a current written plan of care for assigned patients.
  • Set priorities and patient goals with the patient and/or family.
  • Document evidence in the medical record of patient/family teaching and their responses.
  • Ensure patient education and instructions are consistent with those of the physician or designee.
  • Communicate and work effectively with other staff and departments.
  • Participate in unit or hospital-based quality assurance activities or committees.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1-year chemotherapy administration experience.
  • Possession of or eligibility for a license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New York State.
  • BLS Certificate required by the American Heart Association.
  • Minimum of one year of cancer care experience.
  • ONS Chemotherapy & Immunotherapy certification required or must be obtained within 3 months.
  • Under New York State Education Law 6905 (BSN in 10), all Registered Nurses licensed on or after June 18, 2020, must obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree within 10 years of initial RN licensure.

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • 3+ years of Oncology experience.
  • ONCC Certificate.
  • Cerner/Power Chart EMR experience.
  • BSN degree.

Additional Information

As part of employment at Southampton Hospital, there may be occasions when travel to other locations is needed to support operational needs. This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair. This function may be designated as “essential,” requiring employees to remain at their work location or report to work during institutional emergencies.

Pay

$54.62 - $64.47 per hour.
