Registered Nurse (On-Call)

About the role

Kamehameha Schools' Maui Campus is seeking an On-Call Registered Nurse (RN) to cover for RNs out of office days. The ideal candidate should have 3+ years of RN experience, current State of Hawaii RN license, BLS certification, and computer/EHR skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs assessment of students and staff, including history and physical, and provides direct care following Standing Orders and KS policies.
• Responds to emergent situations and consults with the Medical Director as needed.
• Coordinates referral of students to appropriate community medical facilities and issues medical restrictions.
• Determines students' disposition based on Standing Orders and KS policies and maintains professional communication with parents, staff, providers, and other medical facilities.
• Maintains infection control and safety standards in the workplace.
• Provides health education and TB testing/clearance, as well as certain immunizations.
• May assist with transporting students for medical care.

Requirements

• Minimum qualifications: BSN or related field, 3+ years RN experience, current RN license, BLS certification, good interpersonal skills, ability to work evenings and weekends.
• Preferred qualifications: Experience in pediatric/adolescent family medicine, emergency room, medical-surgical settings, NASN membership, valid driver's license.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently sits, performs desk-based computer tasks, grasps light/fine manipulation, talks/hears.
• Sometimes stands/walks, writes by hand, lifts/carry/push/pull objects up to 20 lbs.
• Rarely twists, bends, stoops, squats, kneels, climbs, reaches above shoulder, or grasps forcefully.

Working Conditions

The position involves traveling to other locations, including neighbor islands, to conduct business. Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours but may require evenings and weekends.
