About the Role

The Mother Baby Unit is a 20-bed, all-private post-partum unit offering 24-hour rooming-in and individualized teaching. We are a Baby-Friendly designated hospital with specially trained nurses that provide lactation support, and a lactation specialist is available seven days a week. In addition, we provide surgical procedures and triage for GYN patients. St. Joseph's Health is one of only two hospitals in New York State recognized in Newsweek's 2021 list of Best Maternity Hospitals. Nationally, only 217 facilities met Leapfrog safety standards for excellence in maternity care by following important protocols to protect moms and babies and maintaining low rates of C-section, episiotomy, and early elective deliveries. Specialized training is provided for all aspects of obstetrical and GYN care.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate, communicate, and facilitate optimal family-centered provision of care, family/caregiver education, goal setting, and critical thinking.
• Assess, plan, implement, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate the patient's plan of care from admission to discharge.
• Provide quality patient monitoring, medical/surgical nursing interventions, and hands-on skills including monitoring mother and infant, post-surgical care, respiratory support, and more.
• Work within a collaborative team approach with an interdisciplinary team including OB providers, certified nurse midwives, registered nurses, lactation consultants, social workers, and spiritual care.
• Ensure quality nursing care is rendered to all patients in accordance with the New York Nurse Practice Act, National Standards of Practice, and Nursing and Clinical Service standards of care and practice.
• Ensure a seamless, effective, efficient transition of care across the continuum.
• Participate in monitoring quality metrics specific to the department and ensure complete and accurate documentation in the patient record.
• Act as mentor, clinician, educator, consultant/collaborator, and navigator.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and current licensure in the State of New York.
• Baccalaureate Degree in the Science of Nursing (BSN) preferred, according to NYS requirements.
• Specialty credentialing and educational degree according to clinical nursing practice specialty area preferred.
• Maintain all licensures and certifications according to NYS regulations and specialty area requirements.
• Participate in continuing education and update and maintain knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise.

Pay

Pay Range: $38.75 - $58.95 per hour. Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.

Work Environment and Hazards

Clinical office setting. Exposure to conditions that may be considered particularly disagreeable to sight, touch, sound, smell, and taste; may encounter fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, along with biohazards/hazards (mechanical, electrical, burns, chemicals, radiation, sharp objects, etc.); occasionally subject to noise, infectious waste, diseases, and conditions. Includes the need to be physically and mentally capable to perform nursing processes.
