About the role
The Registered Nurse is a member of the interdisciplinary team working in collaboration with the Physician. The Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing care process consistent with their license and/or certification including initiation of culturally competent continuum of care including inpatient, outpatient and community settings. The Registered Nurse is responsible for overseeing any necessary coordination of the interdisciplinary plan of care and provides for its consistency with the medical treatment plan.
Responsibilities
- Assessment - an orderly process consisting of the identification, gathering and organization of subjective and objective data pertaining to the patient/family/significant other, including physical, psychosocial, spiritual and cultural.
- Planning - an organized step in the process that consists of the identification of actual or potential problems and desired outcomes (goals) that result in a documented plan of care. The plan of care provides direction for the patient/family/significant other and interdisciplinary team.
- Intervention - the specific interventions or orders that are implemented consistent with the plan of care and medical treatment plan.
- Evaluation - a step in the process that involves determining the effectiveness of the interventions in achieving the plan of care and determining the conclusions concerning the achievement or lack of achievement of desired outcomes.
- Education is consistent with the identified problem and associated goals and is seen as critical to creating an environment that promotes patient empowerment.
- Employee may be required to perform Limited Laboratory Services to include patient identification and preparation for specimen collection, processing samples for testing, performing required quality control testing and instrument maintenance and function checks, monitoring, recording and reporting tests results to include critical values, and maintaining competency/certification of the aforementioned tasks and duties.
- Licensed and registered care providers responsible for utilizing the care process relative to their scope of practice and knowledge base, may document the assessment, plan, intervention and Evaluation.
- All patient care activities are administered according to standards, procedural guidelines and organizational policy.
- The Registered Nurse actively supports performance improvement initiatives and provides leadership to other members of the patient care team.
- By participating in educational activities, the Registered Nurse assumes responsibility for continued professional and personal growth.
Qualifications
- Education/License: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred. Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey or current multi state license required. American Heart Association BLS required upon hire or transfer.
- Experience: Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire.
- Specialty Experience: Advanced Certification Required Certification Preferred.
- Emergency Room: 2 years medical/ surgical and/ or emergency room experience preferred. ACLS required within 6 months of hire or transfer. ATCN or TNCC is required within 24 months of hire or transfer. PALS or ENPC attained within 12 months of hire or transfer. CPI by 10/31/25 for existing team members, and new team members have 1 year from hire or transfer date.
- Trauma Bay: ACLS, PALS & ATCN at time of hire. NIHSS and minimum of 8 contact hours of education every 1 year in basic stroke assessment or intervention by 5/31/25 for existing team members, and new team members have 1 year from hire or transfer date.
- ICU/CTICU: ACLS required within 6 months from date of hire or transfer. NIHSS and minimum of 8 contact hours of education every 1 year in basic stroke assessment or intervention by 5/31/25 for existing team members, and new team members have 1 year from hire or transfer date. CCRN preferred.
- CVU: ACLS required within 6 months from date of hire or transfer. NIHSS and minimum of 8 contact hours of education every 1 year in basic stroke assessment or intervention by 5/31/25 for existing team members, and new team members have 1 year from hire or transfer date. CCRN preferred.
- HVU: ACLS required within 6 months from date of hire or transfer. NIHSS and minimum of 8 contact hours of education every 1 year in basic stroke assessment or intervention by 5/31/25 for existing team members, and new team members have 1 year from hire or transfer date. ACLS preferred.
- PCU: ACLS preferred. NIHSS and minimum of 8 contact hours of education every 1 year in basic stroke assessment or intervention by 5/31/25 for existing team members, and new team members have 1 year from hire or transfer date.
- Pines/3 Central: NIHSS and minimum of 8 contact hours of education every 1 year in basic stroke assessment or intervention by 5/31/25 for existing team members, and new team members have 1 year from hire or transfer date. ACLS preferred.
- South/Meadow: ACLS preferred. NIHSS and minimum of 8 contact hours of education every 1 year in basic stroke assessment or intervention by 5/31/25 for existing team members, and new team members have 1 year from hire or transfer date.
- Meadow: ACLS preferred. NIHSS and minimum of 8 contact hours of education every 1 year in basic stroke assessment or intervention by 5/31/25 for existing team members, and new team members have 1 year from hire or transfer date.
- South/Meadow: ACLS preferred. NIHSS and minimum of 8 contact hours of education every 1 year in basic stroke assessment or intervention by 5/31/25 for existing team members, and new team members have 1 year from hire or transfer date.
- Harmony: NIHSS and minimum of 8 contact hours of education every 1 year in basic stroke assessment or intervention by 5/31/25 for existing team members, and new team members have 1 year from hire or transfer date. ACLS preferred.
- PAT: Medical/Surgical experience preferred.
- OR: 2 years medical/surgical and/ or critical care experience preferred. Effective 1/1/25, all new OR team members must scrub and/or learn to scrub during their orientation within six months. ACLS is required by 12/31/24 for all RNs in the City OR and 4/25/25 for all RNs in the Mainland OR. CNOR preferred.
- PACU/Same Day Surgery/ Recovery Room: Critical Care or PACU experience required. ACLS is required at time of hire or transfer. PALS is required within 6 months from date of hire or transfer. CPAN preferred.
- Intervention Radiology: 2 years medical/surgical experience required; Interventional Radiology, and Critical Care experience preferred. ACLS is required at time of hire or transfer. PALS is required within 1 year from date of hire or transfer.
- Cath Lab (cath lab holding, Electrophysiology (EP)): Critical care, emergency room, cath-lab or telemetry experience preferred; ACLS at time of hire or transfer.
- Non-Invasive Lab MLD: 2 years telemetry experience required. ACLS at time of hire or transfer.
- Endoscopy: 2 years medical/surgical experience required; Endoscopy, telemetry and critical care experience preferred. ACLS is required within 6 months from date of hire or transfer. CGRN preferred.
- Radiation Oncology: Mainland Oncology experience preferred. ONS/ONCC(r) Radiation Therapy Certificate, required within 6 months from date of hire or transfer, renewal every 2 years. Minimum of 12 oncology-related CEUs yearly or Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) or Radiation Oncology Certified Nurse (ROCN) certification renewed every 4 years. ROCN or OCN preferred.
- Medical Oncology/Infusion Services: Oncology experience preferred. ONS Fundamentals of Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Administration or Chemotherapy/ Immunot
