About the role
The Medical Surgical Staff Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care within a multidisciplinary unit, supervising nursing assistants and ensuring patient safety and quality care. Performs comprehensive patient assessments, develops and modifies individualized care plans, and documents all nursing activities accurately. Manages therapies including IV access, injections, and assists with procedures like chest tube insertion, thoracentesis, and central line management. Responds to emergencies, collaborates effectively with the healthcare team, and maintains a focus on patient satisfaction through bedside reporting and communication. Delegates tasks to healthcare team members, ensures medication safety, and adheres to safety protocols to prevent falls, pressure ulcers, and other hazards. Demonstrates competency in patient care activities such as vital signs interpretation, medication administration, and patient education. Maintains a positive work environment, promotes safety, and uses critical thinking to evaluate patient conditions and respond appropriately.
Qualifications & Skills
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- BLS certification
- Nursing diploma
