About the Role

The registered professional nurse (RN) is responsible for the direct and indirect total nursing care of assigned patients and the supervision of assigned personnel. This position requires knowledge of department and hospital policies and procedures relevant to nursing care delivery. The role involves frequent interactive and consultative associations, management, and supervisory skills. Effective communication—written, auditory, or visual—is essential, along with proficiency in spoken and written language, telephone use, and manual dexterity.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and indirect nursing care to assigned patients.
  • Supervise assigned personnel.
  • Interpret and apply departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Engage in frequent interactive and consultative associations with healthcare teams.
  • Demonstrate management and supervisory skills.
  • Retrieve, communicate, and present information in written, auditory, or visual formats.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (required).
  • One year of nursing/patient care experience in an acute care setting (required).
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Virginia Department of Health Professions or Compact State Licensure in Nursing (required).
  • BLS certification (required).

Specialty Certifications

Nurses in designated units must maintain the following certifications. New graduates or those new to a practice area have one year to complete these requirements:

  • ACLS: ED, ICU, CVICU, Cardiac Cath Lab, Cardiopulmonary Rehab, Bronch Suite, Interventional Radiology, Radiology Safety Nurses, Step Down Units (3A, 3B, 4B), 6A, 6B, 7A, Labor and Delivery, Hemodialysis, Respiratory Therapy, Float Pool, GI Unit, and PACU.
  • PALS: PACU, Pediatric Nurses, ED.
  • NRP: NICU, Mother Baby, Labor and Delivery.
  • De-escalation training: BHU, ED.

Per policy, ACLS or PALS certification may substitute for BLS if the employee holds current certification in either.

The compensation for this position—whether expressed as an annual salary or hourly rate—is determined based on qualifications, relevant training and experience, skill level, shift differentials (where applicable), internal equity, and current market conditions. The posted hiring range reflects the range VHC Health believes is appropriate at the time of posting and may be adjusted based on business needs or market changes. Bonuses, incentives, or other benefits are subject to the terms of applicable plans and may be modified at the discretion of VHC Health.
