Registered Nurse Medical Oncology

About the Role

The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of patients in the Medical Oncology unit at St. George Regional Hospital. The staff RN utilizes the nursing process through technology, therapeutic intervention, evidence-based practice, and coordination of care with other health team members.

Responsibilities

• Assess: Performs appropriate assessment of physical, social, and psychological status, including cognitive, communicative, and developmental skills. Seeks and evaluates information from interdisciplinary team members, patients, families, physicians, non-nursing disciplines, and support staff.
• Plan: Uses assessment information and critical thinking to collaboratively develop an individualized plan of care. Actively involves patients, families, teams, and physicians in planning, including education and follow-up needs (e.g., teaching, referrals).
• Implement: Directs the interdisciplinary care team via delegation, coordination, and collaboration. Provides or delegates care consistent with the plan, guidelines, and professional licensure. Manages time, supplies, and resources effectively to prioritize and organize patient care.
• Evaluate: Evaluates patient responses to interventions, including goal achievement, clinical outcomes, and satisfaction. Revises the plan of care as needed and reassesses changes.
• Professionalism: Promotes the nursing profession and participates in the development of others. Integrates legal and ethical standards into practice, complies with regulatory standards, and provides accurate documentation.

Requirements

• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice. Valid compact licenses must be transferred to the state of practice within 60 days of employment.
• RNs with less than 12 months of experience must obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within four years of hire.
• Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution (required as of 4/27/2025; employees hired or promoted prior to this date are held to prior minimum requirements).

Physical Requirements

• Ongoing need to see, read, and assess patient needs, operate monitors, and identify equipment.
• Frequent verbal communication with care providers, patients, and visitors, including hearing and understanding spoken information, alarms, and needs, especially during emergencies.
• Manual dexterity for complex equipment operation, including computer use, typing, and medication preparation.
• Ability to lift, bend, retrieve, and carry supplies and equipment, including heavy items.
• Walking and assisting with patient transport, pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment.
• Navigating crowded, busy rooms with equipment and power cords.
• Standing in a stationary position for extended periods.
• For roles requiring driving: Ability to drive a vehicle, including sitting, seeing, and reading signs and traffic signals.

Pay

$35.22 - $53.29 per hour, dependent upon experience.

Schedule

Full-time, nights. 36 scheduled weekly hours.
