About the role
The Registered Nurse (RN) at Riverton Mom Baby is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of mothers and newborns. The unit is a 28-bed facility caring for mothers and newborns after delivery. Staff RNs typically manage 3-4 couplets (a mother and her newborn) while Perioperative Care Technicians (PCTs) manage 8 couplets. The unit occasionally accommodates hysterectomy surgical patients.
Responsibilities
- Affirmatively assess physical, social, and psychological status of patients.
- Elicit and evaluate information from other members of the interdisciplinary team, including patients, families, physicians, non-nursing disciplines, support staff, and others.
- Collaboratively develop individualized plans of care, involving patient, family, team, and physician input.
- Direct interdisciplinary care teams through delegation, coordination, and collaboration.
- Provide or delegate care according to the plan of care, following guidelines of care and professional licensure provisions.
- Set priorities and organize patient care delivery efficiently, managing time, supplies, and resources.
- Evaluate patient responses to interventions, revising plans of care as necessary and reassessing changes as required.
- Promote the nursing profession and collaborate with others to enhance patient care.
- Comply with legal and ethical standards, regulatory standards, and professional licensure provisions.
Requirements
- Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice.
- Valid compact license must be transferred to the state of practice within 60 days of employment.
- BLS for healthcare providers certification.
- One or more years of RN work experience preferred.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required as of the job description's last update on 4/27/2025, but employees hired or promoted prior to this date will be held to the minimum requirements that were in place at the time of their promotion or hire.
Qualifications
- Ongoing need for visual and auditory skills to see and read information, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
- Frequent verbal communication with patient care providers, patients, and visitors.
- Manual dexterity for manipulating complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy.
- Ability to lift and move patients, supplies, and equipment.
- Standing, walking, bending, and pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment.
