About the role

The professional nurse works in a patient- and family-centered care environment, using the nursing process to address the unique needs of diverse patients. The role involves developing nursing plans of care with patients and their designated care partners, integrating evidence-based practice, and collaborating with patients and families to ensure culturally sensitive care.

Responsibilities

• Interacts with co-workers, patients, their family/designated care partner(s), and other staff in accordance with Jefferson's values.
• Partners with patients, their family/designated care partner(s) to identify learning needs and priorities, and educates them about their condition, treatments, and recovery plans.
• Administers medications and follows established protocols to minimize risks of harm.
• Uses information technology to communicate and support ethical decision-making, and monitors and improves patient care processes using data.
• Fosters open communication and teamwork within nursing and interdisciplinary teams, ensuring safe, compassionate, and coordinated care.
• Recognizes and respects patients' personal preferences, priorities, and cultural beliefs and values in delivering care.
• Creates an inclusive environment and demonstrates leadership skills in problem-solving and conflict resolution.
• Participates in hospital- and practice-setting committees, including safety and quality improvement initiatives.
• Actively seeks feedback, incorporates it into practice, and demonstrates a commitment to lifelong learning and professional development.

Requirements

A special diploma from an accredited school of nursing is required. Knowledge of patient-and family-centered care, cultural awareness, effective communication, and specialized nursing knowledge are essential. Experience as an RN in critical care/ED is preferred, and a BSN or equivalent is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• BLS - Basic Life Support certification from the AHA is required.
• Active RN license in the state of practice is required.
• Lifts and carries up to 50 lbs. frequently.

Skills

Knowledge of evidence-based practice, clinical expertise, and cultural sensitivity are crucial. Effective communication, patient assessment, medication administration, discharge planning, and health information documentation are also important skills.
