JeffSTAT Paramedic Critical Care Transport Nights

About the role

The JeffSTAT Paramedic is primarily responsible for providing care to patients during inter-facility and emergency transports following JeffSTAT's predetermined treatment protocols. The JeffSTAT Paramedic serves as an ambassador of Thomas Jefferson Hospital, often being the first Jefferson healthcare delivery team member with whom the patient and their family will have contact.

Responsibilities

• Provides care to critically ill and injured patients following JeffSTAT’s treatment protocols and standards of care.
• Completes a patient care record detailing patient assessment, treatment rendered during transport, and patient outcome following interventions.
• Provides continuous education to patients and their families about the transport process, interventions performed, and events at the receiving facility.
• Inspects medical equipment and supplies at the beginning of each shift; completes ambulance inventory checklist, refrigerator temperature log, and glucometer control testing.
• Maintains knowledge base for flight paramedic role by attending mandatory meetings, chart reviews, equipment reviews, skill labs, clinical rotations, and continuing education sessions related to the care and transport of critically ill and/or injured patients.
• Completes all annual recurrent competency requirements.
• Maintains an active paramedic certification and all other certifications required by policy.

Experience

• Required field paramedic experience, minimum 5,000 hours, in a critical care transport program or 911 ALS ambulance service.
• Proficiency in performing advanced life support skills such as intubation, IV insertion, medication administration, EKG interpretation, and chest decompression.
• Current medical command in good standing with the Philadelphia EMS Office or another region in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, or Delaware.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Intubation, IV insertion, medication administration, EKG interpretation, and chest decompression.
• Mechanical cardiac assist devices (IABP, ECMO, VAD, Impella).
• External ventricular devices (EVD).
• Invasive patient monitoring devices (Arterial line, SWAN Ganz, CVP).

• ABLS – Advanced Burn Life Support – American Burn Association (within 180 days)
• ACLS – Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support – American Heart Association
• ATLS-Audit – Advanced Trauma Life Support Audit Only – American College of Surgeons (within 180 days) or ATCN – Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses – Society of Trauma Nurses (within 180 days) or TPATC – Transport Provider Advanced Trauma Care – Air and Surface Transport Nurses Association (within 180 days)
• BLS – Basic Life Support – American Heart Association
• FP-C – Certified Flight Paramedic – Board for Critical Care Transport Paramedic Certification (within 180 days) or within 2 years
• CCP-C – Certified Critical Care Paramedic – Board for Critical Care Transport Paramedic Certification (within 2 years)
• EMT – Paramedic – National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians
• PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support – American Heart Association
• PHTLS – Prehospital Trauma Life Support – National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (within 180 days)
• ASLS – Advance Stroke Life Support – American Heart Association (within 180 days)
