Registered Nurse - Invasive Cardiac Lab

Main Function

The Staff Nurse is a professional care giver who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated time frame and provides care to these patients via therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment/instrumentation, and other health care team members. Reports to the Heart & Vascular Clinical Director.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists with scrubbing, circulation and recording in the Cath Lab per Cath Lab policies and physicians specific procedures.
  • Maintains an adequate stock and proper inventory of drugs and narcotics.
  • Is responsible for on-call coverage with response time not to exceed 30 minutes.
  • Is skilled in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Remains flexible in staffing patterns and resolutions of staffing conflicts; rotates through non-invasive Cardiology Lab, as needed.
  • Heart Institute Ambulatory Care Unit (HIACU) rotation involving prep and recovery of Cardiology, Electrophysiology, and Interventional Radiology patients required.

Education

  • Registered Nurse; current NYS licensure.
  • ACLS preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of one year critical care experience.

CPR Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.
  • Cardiac experience required.
  • Previous Critical Care/ICU experience desirable.

Physical Demands

  • Required to be on feet much of time.
  • Appreciable physical effort including lifting, reaching, stooping, moving patients and pushing of beds and stretchers.

Exposure Category

  • Category I. Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.
