About the role
The Registered Nurse (RN) positions at Carl R Darnall Army Medical Center, Fort Hood, TX, support high-quality patient care across multispecialty clinical settings. The roles involve assessing patients, administering medications and treatments, coordinating referrals, assisting with procedures, and documenting care accurately in the electronic health record.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate patient care in collaboration with a wide array of healthcare professionals.
- Facilitate the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to clinical care, quality and cost effectiveness.
- Ensure compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the MTF.
- Perform physical exams and health histories.
- Provide health promotions, counseling, and education.
- Administer medications, wound care, and numerous other personalized interventions.
- Direct and supervise care provided by other healthcare professionals.
- Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergency situations.
- Make referral appointments and arrange specialty care as appropriate.
- Conduct research in support of improved practice and patient outcomes.
- Performs independent, comprehensive telephone, clinical triaging, and facilitate care throughout multidisciplinary locations.
- Acts as relief nurse, triages, and screens walk-in patients to assess the severity of the patient’s condition and need for provider intervention.
- Screens patient charts to assess medical history to determine health care needs.
- Executes and/or ensures the completion of orders from health care providers.
- Recognizes and reports abnormal test results, changes in symptoms, and the need for follow-up.
- Records required data in patient charts.
- Assists health care providers with examinations and procedures.
- Responsible for educating patients for high risk, painful, or stressful procedures with education and support.
- Makes patients aware of their status as a contract worker and coordinates patient referrals to a variety of health care services, including community health nurses, health promotion centers, social workers, dietitians, clinical nurse specialists, chaplains, and other ancillary services as directed by attending physicians.
Requirements
- Education: Associates Degree of Nursing or higher from an ACEN or CCNE accredited educational program.
- Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse.
- Experience: Possess one (1) year of clinical or inpatient experience, post-education/graduation and post-licensure within the last two (2) years.
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS
- Must complete TB Test
Qualifications
- US Citizenship required
- Subject to a background/security investigation
- Willingness to comply with DHA vaccination requirements
- Willingness to complete a physical examination
- Pre-employment drug screening
- Required to wear PPE during performance of services.
- Walking, long periods of standing, stretching, crouching, bending, stooping, lifting to 50lbs, lifting over 50lbs with assistance.
