Registered Nurse-Intensive Care Unit

About the role
The Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse (ICU RN) provides intensive care to patients with life-threatening conditions. The ICU RN uses advanced critical-care skills, makes rapid decisions, and demonstrates compassion for all patients. Responsibilities include monitoring vital signs, blood oxygen levels, administering IV fluids, and collaborating with the medical team to adjust care plans.
Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality care to critically ill patients by performing detailed assessments, developing care plans, and implementing complex nursing interventions.
- Use advanced equipment such as cardiac monitors, pulse oximeters, blood pressure monitors, ventilators, infusion pumps, and capnography devices to continuously track vital signs and physiological parameters.
- Safely administer medications, intravenous fluids, and blood products with precise dosing and timing, closely monitoring patient responses to ensure effectiveness and prevent adverse reactions.
- Manage life-support devices including ventilators, dialysis machines, and cardiac monitors.
- Provide emotional support and education to patients' families, acting as a liaison to ensure they understand the care being provided.
- Document all aspects of patient care to ensure continuity and compliance while rigorously maintaining infection control and safety protocols to protect vulnerable patients.
Requirements
- Current and valid state RN License.
- Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current.
- Completion of Critical Care Course preferred.
- Basic Arrhythmia Interpretation within 30 days of hire.
- Current ACLS certificate within 30 days of hire and maintain current.
- Minimum of one year as a staff RN in an acute care hospital; critical care experience preferred.
- Critical Care RN (CCRN) Certification preferred.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
