Registered Nurse - Intensive Care Unit
About the Role
The Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process to provide safe, effective, and patient-centered care while maintaining professional accountability for assigned patients. The RN evaluates the effectiveness of care provided by other direct caregivers and coordinates patient care collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams. This position upholds patient rights, maintains confidentiality, and performs all duties in alignment with Mercy’s mission, values, and Service Standards.
Level III unit with a diverse patient population including post-op CABG/valve, neurosurgical, trauma, and renal cases. Nurse-to-patient ratio: 2:1 or 1:1.
Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, effective, and patient-centered care using the nursing process.
- Evaluate care provided by other direct caregivers.
- Coordinate patient care with interdisciplinary teams.
- Maintain patient rights and confidentiality.
- Adhere to Mercy’s mission, values, and Service Standards.
Requirements
- Graduation from a school of nursing (associate's degree, diploma, or BSN).
- Current RN license in the hiring state and/or compact licensure; must meet all state board of nursing requirements.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or completion within 30 days of hire.
- One or more of the following certifications may be required based on the position/unit or acquired within a department-specified timeframe:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- CPHON (Certified Pediatric/Hematology/Oncology Nurse)
- OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- PEARS (Pediatric Assessment Recognition and Stabilization)
- S.T.A.B.L.E. (Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab Work, and Emotional Support)
- C-EFM (Fetal Monitor Certification)
- Other unit-specific certifications as required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to push, pull, and/or lift 50 lbs on a regular basis.
- Prolonged standing and walking during each shift.
- Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
