About the role
Riverside University Health System (RUHS), Community Health Centers is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse III - MC/CHC to join the CHC Administration team. The Registered Nurse will oversee quality improvement initiatives at the Medical-Surgical Center (MSC) and the CHC Moreno Valley Clinic, ensuring adherence to standard work processes, monitoring performance metrics, and supporting care gap closure through data analysis and chart audits.
The most competitive candidates will have a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and experience in quality improvement or case management in a hospital or clinic setting. Strongly preferred candidates will have experience in ICU, Emergency Department (ED), hospital case management, or healthcare quality improvement roles.
Riverside University Health System provides a wide range of primary and specialty care services across 13 Community Health Centers (CHCs) throughout Riverside County. As federally qualified health centers, the CHCs operate on a sliding fee scale to ensure care for some of the county’s most vulnerable populations. Teams are dedicated to delivering compassionate, community-focused care.
Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, organize, and provide nursing care to assigned patients in accordance with physician instructions; make preliminary observations and prepare patients for medical treatment.
- Assist physicians in administering treatments and performing medical examinations, diagnostic tests, and surgical operations.
- Administer prescribed treatments and medications, including dispensing, as ordered; chart treatment and record significant changes in patient condition.
- Counsel and advise patients, families, and significant others regarding medical problems and proper healthcare methods.
- Prepare and maintain concise records and reports; instruct patients in carrying out physician's orders; transcribe physician's orders to working records.
- Provide orientation and training to new staff, residents, medical students, Regional Occupational Program (ROP) participants, and nursing students.
- Participate in quality assurance reviews; act as a team leader or relief charge nurse.
- Assign and monitor the work of subordinate nursing personnel; participate in committee activities; identify staff training needs.
- Triage patients by reviewing admission charts and merging patients into the appropriate patient assignment or clinic flow.
- Testify in court regarding client's mental and physical condition.
- Coordinate and monitor patients through the hospitalization process, utilizing physicians, primary care nurses, and third-party payors to maintain quality care and fiscal responsibility.
- Review post-hospital care plans with patients/families, establishing contact regarding timeframes and responsibilities; follow care plans through patient discharge.
Requirements
- Current and valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Valid California Driver’s License.
- Equivalent to three years of full-time experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care facility or community health agency.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nursing or a health-related field (may be required for some positions).
- A bachelor’s degree in nursing or a national certification in a nursing specialty may substitute for one year of the required experience.
- A master’s degree in nursing may substitute for two years of the required experience.
Skills
- Knowledge of current principles, techniques, and procedures in professional nursing.
- Understanding of medical terminology, patient care routines, and medical instruments/equipment.
- Familiarity with uses and effects of medicines and narcotics.
- Awareness of community resources for patient care and follow-up.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws governing nursing practices.
- Ability to identify potential discharge needs and understand payor source documentation requirements.
- Ability to perform full range of nursing duties, plan and organize patient care, and maintain records.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with physicians, patients, and staff.
- Ability to instruct entry-level nurses and ancillary personnel.
- Ability to evaluate medical records, recommend continued stay necessity, and identify discharge needs.
Schedule
9/80 work schedule: Monday – Friday, with every other Friday off.
Hours: 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM, and Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
