Psychiatric Registered Nurse III
About the role
The Vermont Psychiatric Care Hospital (VPCH) is a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Vermont's most vulnerable populations through mental health care. This position is open to all State employees and external applicants.
Responsibilities
- Function as a fully integrated member of a multidisciplinary team
- Provide excellent psychiatric nursing care
- Work in a clinical setting with potential exposure to communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens, potentially physically and verbally violent patient population, and other stressful situations
- May be required to work evenings, nights, weekends, and extended shifts as needed
Requirements
- Possession of (or eligibility for) licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Vermont OR eligible to practice in the state of Vermont via a multi-state license
- Three (3) years or more of professional nursing experience in the nursing specialty
- Maintain Vermont licensure or multi-state license as a Registered Nurse as a condition of employment

Pay
The starting rate may be negotiable based on experience and qualifications. As of July 12, 2026, the step 1 rate for pay grade 24 will be $44.60 per hour and the step 15 rate will be $69.74 per hour.
Schedule
Overtime work is required to maintain minimum staffing levels and for unannounced regulatory inspections and is considered a condition of employment. The ability to work overtime when required is an essential function of this job class.
