About the role

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) seeks a Psychiatric Nursing Assistant III to join a team dedicated to providing specialized care and fostering a positive impact on the lives of Texans.

Responsibilities

  • Takes an active role in implementing individualized recovery plans and offering consistent support to patients.
  • Uses therapeutic communication skills to engage patients and assist with activities of daily living.
  • Accompanies patients to appointments and communicates effectively with other team members.
  • Maintains direct and on-going therapeutic interactions with patients to encourage progress towards less restrictive environments.
  • Provides verbal and written documentation concerning patient behaviors and progress towards individualized goals.
  • Participates in shift reports and recovery team meetings.
  • Performs delegated nursing duties commensurate with competency and provides guidance to PNA I and II.
  • Monitors patients for medication administration and treatment, including taking and monitoring vital signs.
  • Communicates patient care information clearly and concisely to the licensed nurse.
  • Responds appropriately to crisis or psychiatric emergency situations using TIPS under RN supervision.
  • Trains and provides guidance to PNA I and II as needed.

Requirements

  • At least two (2) years’ work experience.
  • One year of psychiatric patient experience or direct care required.
  • Two years of patient experience or direct care preferred.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a nursing assistant program.
  • CPR certification or the ability to obtain certification within 60 days of employment.
  • Valid Texas driver license or obtain one within 90 days of hire.

Skills

  • Knowledge of patient care techniques and treatment programs.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Effective interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform basic computer tasks and documentation.
  • Ability to provide first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Ability to work with others and accept supervision.
  • Ability to train and provide guidance to others.

Pay

$3,649.83 - $4,594.50 per month

Schedule

Day shift with up to 10% travel, up to 10% telework not available, and up to 10% travel.
