Come join a team of dedicated and compassionate staff at a 16-bed state-of-the-art Secure Residential Facility in Essex, Vermont. You will play an essential role in the person-centered treatment of adults with severe mental illness. The facility is over 17,000 square feet with a separate full-size gymnasium.

About the role

This position is primarily responsible for monitoring and providing support for a safe and therapeutic environment facility-wide during the assigned shift. Incumbents are designated charge nurses and will fulfill the duties of the charge nurse role. Duties include supervising professional and paraprofessional nursing staff, providing guidance for resolution of minor discipline issues, employee environmental concerns, and maintaining effective employee working relationships.

You will be responsible for providing feedback and ensuring staff accountability for all aspects of care, including documentation to meet facility and regulatory standards. You will advocate for resources necessary for resident care or those necessary to support the work of the staff. Additionally, you will support the Nurse Manager with performance evaluations and participate in the development and implementation of practices within the facility. You will also assist the Nurse Educator and Assistant Director of Clinical Services in facilitating ongoing competencies/trainings with nursing staff.

Requirements

  • Possession of (or eligible for) licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Vermont OR eligible to practice in the state of Vermont via a multi-state license.
  • Three (3) or more years of professional nursing experience in the nursing specialty.
  • Must maintain Vermont licensure or multi-state license as a Registered Nurse as a condition of employment.
  • Overtime work is required to maintain minimum staffing levels and for unannounced regulatory inspections and is considered a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Experience in specialty areas such as psychiatric, geriatric, or pediatric/adolescent nursing.

Environmental Factors

  • Duties primarily performed in a clinical setting.
  • Work may require travel off-site.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, potentially physically and verbally violent patient population, and other stressful situations may occur.
  • May be required to work evenings, nights, weekends, and extended shifts as the need arises.

Schedule

This position is currently hiring for the night shift. Night shift differential is $4.00 for all shifts worked, and a weekend differential of $1.50/hour. Time and a half pay is included for hours worked over 80 hours in two weeks.
