About the role
MUSC operates three radiation oncology clinics in the Charleston area: Hollings Cancer Center, MUSC Main Hospital, and MUSC Radiation Oncology in Mount Pleasant. These clinics manage and treat patients with complex cancer diagnoses at varying stages, predominantly serving adults. Common diagnoses include neurologic, head and neck, gynecologic, breast, lung/thoracic, gastrointestinal, genitourinary (prostate), and sarcomas. Treatment modalities include external beam radiation, brachytherapy, and gamma knife.
Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care to patients undergoing radiation oncology treatments.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Administer treatments and monitor patients during procedures such as external beam radiation, brachytherapy, and gamma knife therapy.
- Educate patients and families about treatment plans, side effects, and post-treatment care.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient care and treatment plans.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and infection control standards.
- Assist in the coordination of care across multiple clinic locations as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred.
- RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013, with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing must enroll in an accredited BSN program within two years and obtain a BSN degree within four years of hire or reclassification.
- A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse.
- Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
