About the Role

The Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level using the principles and practices of the nursing process. Delivers safe and effective care, interacts with multidisciplinary team members, and coordinates care to achieve desired results in a MAGNET facility.

This role focuses on patient/family-centered care, addressing physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs. Responsibilities include assessment, nursing diagnoses, outcome identification, planning, implementation of interventions, coordination of care, health teaching, and evaluation of goals and interventions in accordance with MUSC policies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation).
  • Direct and lead assigned team members, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver age/developmentally appropriate care.
  • Develop and implement nursing diagnoses, outcome identification, and care plans.
  • Coordinate the effective and efficient delivery of patient care services using care management principles.
  • Identify clinical priorities and initiate actions to improve patient outcomes.
  • Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment, ensuring patient privacy and professional behavior.
  • Participate in shared governance, peer review, and professional development to promote leadership and clinical excellence.
  • Demonstrate autonomous practice, accountability for actions, and critical thinking.
  • Work effectively in a professional practice model, promoting a healthy work environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013, with an Associate or Diploma degree must enroll in an accredited BSN program within two years and obtain a BSN degree within four years of hire.
  • A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse.
  • Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross equivalent).

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, or walking continuously.
  • Ability to climb stairs infrequently.
  • Ability to work indoors continuously and outdoors in temperature extremes infrequently.
  • Ability to work from elevated areas and in confined/cramped spaces frequently.
  • Ability to perform job functions from kneeling positions, bending at the waist, twisting, and squatting frequently.
  • Ability to perform pinching, gross motor, and fine manipulation with fingers and hands continuously.
  • Ability to reach overhead, in all directions, and perform repetitive motions continuously.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted infrequently; lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor to 36 inches unassisted infrequently; lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs. infrequently.
  • Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force frequently (e.g., transferring patients, pushing wheelchairs or stretchers).
  • Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, and good peripheral vision continuously.
  • Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance, match or discriminate between colors, and determine depth perception continuously.
  • Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction, continuously.
  • Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements continuously.
  • Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations continuously.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, overtime as required, and in a latex-safe environment frequently.
  • Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions continuously.
  • Selected positions may require maintaining good olfactory sensory function or being physically qualified for respirator use continuously.

Schedule

  • 36 scheduled weekly hours.
  • 3-12 hour shifts, including weekends and holidays (night shift).

Pay

Hourly pay grade: Health-28.
