Registered Nurse II- Eating Disorder Program

About the role

This position provides nursing care to patients using the nursing process and coordinates patient care services.

Responsibilities

• Provides patient/family centered care addressing physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs.
• Maintains a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment.
• Directs and leads other assigned team members and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members.
• Completes telephone intake for patients seeking assessment at MUSC Health Center for Eating Disorders.
• Affixes clinical judgment to assess health status of potential patients and consults with medical director to identify patients in need of more emergent assessment.
• Serves as primary contact for medical team within CFED and referring physicians/other clinicians.
• Triage patient and parent calls, responds to medical concerns within scope of practice, works with medical providers to address as needed.
• Helps medical team to maintain efficiency with call response time and patient requests.
• Participates in weekly clinical team meetings with multi-disciplinary team of medical providers, therapists, dietitian.
• Affords patients and families with admission to more intensive eating disorder treatment when needed, including intensive outpatient, partial hospital, residential and inpatient treatment.
• Safely performs technical skills within area of practice (including vital signs, gown weights, orthostatic vital signs, clinical assessment if acute concerns at therapist/RD visit).
• Manages medication refills, prior authorizations, and related tasks.
• Completes Certificate of Medical Need (CMN) and other DME and care coordination as needed.
• Maintains up to date patient information in EHR (including creating and updating patient accounts, insurance information, medications, allergies and pharmacy information).
• Performs regular testing of medical equipment as per hospital policies, works with central supply to maintain adequate stock of medical supplies.
• Collaborates with referring providers, outside hospitals, including growth charts.
• Supports patients in navigating insurance company processes as related to eating disorder care, including initiating single-case agreements and seeking authorization for higher levels of care.
• Identifies policies, procedures and workflows to decrease safety risks in handoffs and collaboration of care.
• Maintains readiness for regulatory surveys.
• Demonstrates hand washing according to policy.
• Utilizes standard precautions, contact isolation and respiratory isolation according to policy.
• Supports medical staff in scheduling, coordinating follow up, confirming appointments as needed when other scheduling team members are not available.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing and a minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse required.
• Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors, working outside in temperature extremes, working from elevated areas, reaching overhead, performing repetitive motions, lifting and carrying 50 lbs., pushing/pulling objects, maintaining 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes, seeing and recognizing objects close at hand or at a distance, matching or discriminating between colors, determining distance/relationship between objects; depth perception, good peripheral vision capabilities, maintaining hearing acuity, with correction, performing gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements, dealing effectively with stressful situations, working rotating shifts, working overtime as required, working in a latex safe environment, maintaining tactile sensory functions, (selected positions) ability to maintain good olfactory sensory function, (selected positions) ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required, (selected positions) ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required.
