Registered Nurse ICU (PRN Days)

About the Role

Directs patient care using critical care skills to determine appropriate nursing diagnosis, planning and implementing interventions, and evaluating outcomes for optimum patient outcomes in the ICU.

Responsibilities

• Manages and provides critical nursing care in the ICU, overseeing monitor tech and telemetry patients.
• Plans and delivers direct patient care using the nursing process and hospital policies to meet care goals.
• Follows CMS guidelines to improve patient outcomes.
• Adheres to established protocols for narcotic and medication administration, ensuring the 6 rights of medication administration.
• Provides patient teaching and initiates discharge planning at admission.
• Communicates pertinent patient information to physicians, staff, and ancillary departments.
• Documents findings, concerns, actions, and outcomes for continuity of care.
• Demonstrates ability to read and treat cardiac rhythms according to ACLS standards within 90 days of hire.
• Obtains and assesses hemodynamic values and maintains invasive monitoring equipment.
• Demonstrates knowledge of ICU-specific IV medications, dosages, and required monitoring.
• Interprets cardiac rhythms for telemetry patients on medical-surgical units and notifies nurses/physicians of arrhythmias.
• Responds to in-house code blue emergencies as team leader following ACLS and PALS protocols.
• May serve as a preceptor for newly hired RNs.

Requirements

• Associate degree in nursing (two-year program) or equivalent formal training (minimum). Bachelor’s Degree (BSN) preferred.
• Six months to one year of Med/Surg experience (minimum). Three to five years of ICU experience preferred.
• Licensed in the State of Kansas as a Registered Nurse in good standing.
• BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC verification within 6 months of hiring.
• Must pass ICU Telemetry exam within 90 days of hire.
