About the role

The House Supervisor - RN facilitates delivery of high-quality, safe and effective nursing care; to assist in the operation of the nursing department according to the legal guidelines of mental health care in the State of Texas.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the patient's access to the appropriate level of care and setting
  • Serves as a resource to nursing staff in interpretation and implementation of policies, procedures and nursing standards of care
  • Supports nursing staff in interpretation and implementation of policies, procedures and nursing standards of care
  • Assists in maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff and patients
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with physicians and health professional affiliates, and nursing staff
  • Participates in activities which enhance professional growth and development

Requirements

  • Assumes responsibility in maintaining a safe, orderly, and therapeutic physical environment for all patients
  • Assists the client in understanding the nature of emotional disturbances and accepting the need for treatment
  • Complies with laws, rules, regulations, protocols, and procedures
  • Uses professional judgment to ascertain and to apply appropriate intervention techniques with patients in crisis
  • Performs administrative tasks such as filing, answering phones and computer entry of progress notes
  • Organizes the activities and schedules for medical and/or non-medical tasks of the Child, Adolescent and Adult and support staff for a given shift
  • Maintains patient confidentiality
  • Upholds the Organization's ethics and customer service standards

Qualifications

  • ADN or BSN from an accredited college or university
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • CPR and Certified in facility approved verbal de-escalation and physical crisis management techniques within 30 days of hire and prior to completion of orientation required
  • Valid Texas RN license in good standing required

Skills

  • Ability to understand and apply applicable standards and regulations
  • Basic teaching or training skills
  • Experience in an inpatient mental health setting at a management level preferred
  • Experience of healthcare management experience preferred
  • Basic skills in personnel management concepts and methods
