About the role
Responsible for working with other healthcare professionals to support various procedures. Monitors patients, administers medications, EMR, consults with healthcare providers, educates patients.
Responsibilities
- Monitors patients, administers medications, EMR, consults with healthcare providers, educates patients.
- Maintains complete and accurate documentation.
- Assumes primary responsibility for documenting components of the nursing process and patients progress toward meeting outcomes in the patient's chart including patient education.
- Maintains accurate documentation of any changes in the patient's status and of any interventions taken.
- Completes post case data sheet completely and legibly.
- Fulfills mandatory education obligations.
- Maintains BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
- Demonstrates knowledge of policies and procedures and is able to identify areas for clinical and professional growth.
- Attends pertinent educational offerings and staff meetings to keep abreast of changes within the unit and hospital.
- Acts as a role model for other team members.
- Consistently responds to patients/families in a professional, courteous, positive manner.
- Promotes an environment where the patient and family is our primary concern and the patient care team works cooperatively toward the patient's goal and objectives.
- Maintains an open line of communication with patients and their families to expedite delays or concerns.
- Notifies the charge nurse about unresolved problems needing resolution.
- Maintains confidentiality according to HIPPA guidelines.
- Fosters AHS Shared values by maintaining a pleasant environment.
- Consistently follows the National Patient Safety Goals.
- Exhibits knowledge of Universal Protocols and applies these protocols to nursing practice.
- Demonstrates use of safe transfer techniques and proper body mechanics for self, staff and patients.
- Follows appropriate infection control guidelines, demonstrates correct isolation standards and hand hygiene.
- Administers medication according to hospital policy.
- Helps to maintain all equipment and recognizes and reports any malfunctions or potential problems to the supervisor.
- Acts as a patient advocate and assures that a patients’ rights are respected, identifies the needs of the patient/family on admission and communicates them to the physician, social worker and/or case manager.
- Identifies and reports all risk management issues in a timely manner.
Qualifications
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse.
- BLS certification.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
- Preferred 2-3 years of experience inpatient hospital nursing.
- ACLS, PALS certification.
Skills
- Knowledge of conditions/diagnoses, procedures, and equipment encountered in the Endoscopy unit, including cardiovascular and pulmonary.
- Competent knowledge of all the normal stages of growth and development and delivers care appropriately.
- Appropriate knowledge and skill in the recognition and management of emergency situations.
- Knowledge of policies and procedures and ability to identify areas for clinical and professional growth.
- Ability to attend pertinent educational offerings and staff meetings to keep abreast of changes within the unit and hospital.
- Ability to pursue professional growth and development by taking the initiative to obtain information on new equipment and technology.
- Ability to assist in the orientation and education of new staff members as to proper use of equipment and department policies and procedures.
- Ability to act as a role model for other team members.
