About the role

Oceans Behavioral Hospital Hammond focuses on helping adults and seniors manage mental health issues through proven therapies. The hospital offers inpatient and outpatient psychiatric counseling and treatment options.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
• Administers medications safely and educates patients on their prescribed medications.
• Reviews and revises medical records and transcribes and implements physician's orders.
• Communicates patient needs to staff to ensure continuity of care.
• Floats among various clinical services and performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Current, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of employment.
• One year of inpatient hospital experience preferred.
• Ability to adapt to a high-stress environment and assess potential patient escalations.
• Effective communication skills, including oral and written, to interact with internal and external customers.
• Self-confidence and ability to lead and direct others.
• Successfully completes CPR certification and an Oceans-approved behavioral health de-escalation program.

Qualifications / Skills Requirements

• Knowledge of psychiatric disorders and appropriate nursing interventions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff.
• Sensitivity to serving culturally diverse and special needs populations.
• Critical thinking abilities to continuously improve patient care.
