About the role

At RWJBarnabas Health, our Same Day Surgery Registered Nurses play an essential role in creating a safe, efficient, and supportive surgical experience for patients and families. As an Ambulatory Surgery RN, you'll provide comprehensive perioperative nursing care while helping patients successfully navigate admission, preparation, recovery, and discharge. Working alongside surgeons, anesthesia providers, and an experienced multidisciplinary team, you'll combine strong clinical judgment with compassionate education and coordinated care to promote exceptional outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Performing comprehensive perioperative assessments to identify the physiological, psychosocial, and educational needs of patients preparing for and recovering from surgical procedures
  • Providing safe, individualized nursing care throughout the ambulatory surgical experience while adapting quickly to changing patient needs and rapid patient turnover
  • Coordinating admission and discharge processes to promote efficient patient flow, continuity of care, and a positive experience for patients and families
  • Monitoring vital signs, evaluating patient responses to care, and recognizing subtle changes in condition that may require timely clinical intervention
  • Developing, implementing, and evaluating individualized plans of care in collaboration with patients, families, surgeons, anesthesia providers, and the multidisciplinary healthcare team
  • Providing clear, compassionate education regarding surgical preparation, recovery expectations, discharge instructions, medications, and follow-up care to help patients and families feel informed and prepared
  • Coordinating preoperative and postoperative care needs with other nursing units and members of the surgical team to facilitate seamless transitions throughout the patient's surgical journey
  • Maintaining accurate and timely documentation within the medical record while ensuring compliance with nursing standards, organizational policies, and patient safety practices
  • Completing post-discharge follow-up calls to assess recovery, reinforce education, and address patient or family questions following their procedure
  • Serving as a clinical resource, preceptor, and mentor to nursing staff, new employees, and students while contributing to a supportive environment focused on professional growth

Requirements

  • Hold an active New Jersey Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and at least one year of inpatient nursing experience are preferred
  • Certified Ambulatory Surgery Nurse (CNAMB) and Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia Nurse (CAPA) credentials are also preferred

Schedule

This is a full-time day shift opportunity working Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with no weekends, no holidays, and no on-call requirements.
