About the Role

In accordance with the Mission and Guiding Behaviors, the Forensic RN provides care in an atmosphere sensitive to each person's physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs. The Forensic RN is accountable for delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process within the standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines of the Organization.

  • Perform and document a complete physical and forensic evidence collection examination, including head-to-toe assessment for trauma, detailed genital examination, forensic specimen collection and documentation (including photography).
  • Assess for mandatory reporting status and report when appropriate for forensic patients.
  • Provide testimony as a fact witness for cases and coordinate with attorneys during the judicial process.
  • Take on-call shifts as scheduled per departmental needs and report within approximately 60 minutes of dispatch.
  • Respond to all subpoenas on cases through the Forensic Department.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited RN program.
  • Current RN License (RN-IN) and BLS certification.
  • Successful completion of the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Training and additional didactic and clinical hours related to the care of patients of domestic violence, strangulation, sexual abuse, child physical abuse, and elder abuse prior to start or within the following timelines:
    • Within 3 months of hire: Complete Adult/Adolescent SANE training.
    • Within 6 months of hire: Complete Pediatric SANE training.
    • Within 18 months of hire: Complete Advanced Strangulation Prevention course.
  • Critical care nursing experience is required.

Schedule
