About the role
Senior Registered Nurse (RN) specialized in SANE/Forensic nursing, focusing on patient care for victims of violence and sexual assault.
Responsibilities
- Conduct trauma-informed forensic examinations
- Document injuries with detailed reports and photographs
- Perform legal blood draws at law enforcement requests
- Provide education on forensic specimen collection, treatment, and discharge planning
- Serve as a patient advocate, ensuring confidentiality and respecting cultural needs
- Collaborate with law enforcement, legal entities, and healthcare teams
- Testify in court as needed
- Mentor and train new forensic nurses
- Participate in quality assurance
- Stay current with forensic nursing practices
- Develop policies, improve workflows, and ensure compliance with laws and standards
Qualifications & Skills
- Must have a valid RN license
- Current BLS certification
- SANE-CA or SANE-A certification (or actively working toward it)
- Minimum of two years of recent RN experience in acute care settings such as emergency, trauma, or ICU
- Strong assessment, documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to provide non-judgmental, patient-centered care and exercise independent judgment
- Capable of training staff and contributing to educational programs
