About The Emergency Department

The Emergency Department at Boston Medical Center – South plays a critical role as the frontline of urgent care, providing immediate, life-saving services to over 65,000 patients annually. As the only designated Level III Trauma Center in the region, the department delivers specialized care in trauma, cardiac, stroke, pediatrics, and behavioral health. With advanced technology, including EMS integration through Twiage, and a dedicated team of skilled nurses, the Emergency Department ensures rapid, high-quality treatment for a wide range of acute conditions, stabilizing patients and coordinating their continued care across the hospital.

Position Summary

As an RN in the Emergency Department, you will play an integral role in delivering exceptional care. Using our patient-centered care model, you will be supported by a collaborative nursing organization, enabling you to provide the high-quality care your patients deserve.

Responsibilities

• Deliver nursing care in the Emergency Department, including assessing, diagnosing, planning, intervening, evaluating, and educating patients
• Communicate with healthcare team members, patients, and their families
• Coordinate and delegate appropriate patient care activities to inter-professional colleagues
• Update and manage patient records
• Enter and interpret computerized data/information
• Follow guidelines and policies established by BMC’s nursing organization
• Assist the leadership team as needed in quality improvement projects

Requirements

• 3 to 5 years of Emergency Department experience required
• Nursing degree required: diploma, ASN, or BSN (preferred); ability to obtain BSN within 4 years required
• Active Massachusetts RN license and BLS required
• ACLS and PALS preferred

Pay

Compensation range: $38.86 - $80.77 per hour. This range offers an estimate based on minimum job qualifications. Base pay is determined by a comprehensive evaluation of factors including education, experience, and licensure/certifications directly related to the position. BMCHS also provides generous total compensation, including benefits (medical, dental, vision, pharmacy), contract increases, Flexible Spending Accounts, 403(b) savings matches, earned time cash out, paid time off, career advancement opportunities, and resources to support employee and family wellbeing.

Schedule

36 hours per week (3:00 PM – 3:00 AM) with rotating weekends.
