About the Role

Responsible for delivering patient care through the nursing process of assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Directs and coordinates nursing care for patients based on nursing practice standards, collaborating with other healthcare professionals to provide quality, cost-effective care and achieve the best possible patient outcomes. Serves as a resource person as needed and applies age-specific considerations and cultural diversity in patient care. Supports Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation’s mission statement and is responsible for care of all patients from birth to elderly.

Responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care using the nursing process.
• Direct and coordinate nursing care based on established practice standards.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure quality, cost-effective care and optimal patient outcomes.
• Serve as a resource for nursing staff and other healthcare team members.
• Apply age-specific and culturally appropriate care across the patient continuum.
• Administer treatments, medications, interpret diagnostic tests, and provide patient/family education.
• Supervise unit secretaries and patient care technicians in collaboration with the Charge Nurse.
• Utilize medical equipment such as Datascope, infusion pumps, and Zoll defibrillators.
• Adhere to Emergency Nurses’ Association standards and Alaska State nursing practice regulations.

Requirements

• Completed a program of education in nursing from an NLN-approved institution (Associate Degree required, BSN preferred).
• Licensed in good standing as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Alaska.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
• Must obtain and maintain PALS within 6 months of hire, and TNCC and ENPC within one year of hire.
• Minimum of 1 year of Emergency Department experience preferred.
• Proficient oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage care across the continuum and work independently within prescribed limits.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and nursing processes.

Skills

• Strong reasoning and problem-solving abilities, including interpreting instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Mathematical proficiency for computing rates, ratios, percentages, and interpreting graphs.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
• Theoretical knowledge of the nursing process, care management, and continuity of care.

Pay

Minimum hourly pay: $48.57.

Schedule

• Full-time position (80 hours per two-week pay period).
• 40 hours per week.
