About the role
The Emergency Department (ED) at BIDMC is a level I trauma center serving the Boston metropolitan area. Each year, nearly 55,000 patients are treated in the ED. The facility is designed to meet the needs of a high-volume, acutely injured or ill patient population and is seeking nurses who want to expand and build upon their knowledge base.
Responsibilities
- Provides direct care to patients and makes necessary nursing judgments.
- Systematically assesses the health care needs of individuals or groups and formulates a care plan, implements and evaluates it.
- Coordinates the care of patients and directs assistive personnel to ensure safe, effective, efficient, equitable and timely patient-centered care.
- Demonstrates awareness of environmental forces on patients' health and identifies necessary resources for implementing the plan of care.
- Maintains relationships with patients and families, maintaining trust and respect, and communicates effectively.
- Maintains annual mandatory education requirements, including emergency skills and unit-based competencies.
- Participates in activities contributing to professional development.
- May participate in quality improvement activities.
- Acts as a patient advocate.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program required.
- Baccalaureate degree in Nursing strongly preferred.
- License as a Registered Nurse required.
- Certificate in Basic Life Support required.
- 1-3 years related work experience required.
- ACLS certification required.
- Basic familiarity with computers and ability to navigate web-based applications.
Qualifications
- Experience in a teaching hospital and specialty area expertise preferred.
- 1 year of emergency nursing experience preferred.
- TNCC certification preferred.
Skills

Problem Solving: Ability to address problems requiring analysis or interpretation of the situation using direct observation, knowledge, and skills based on general precedents.

Written Communications: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English with internal and external customers.
Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families, and external customers.
Benefits
Full time status at BIDMC is considered for schedules greater than or equal to 30 hours per week; part time status is 20 to 29 hours per week.
Per diem employees are not eligible for sign on bonuses. Sign on bonuses are subject to change based on the organization's hiring needs and will be determined by Talent Acquisition on an ongoing basis.
Pay
The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, including seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
