ED Registered Nurse- MAH 36hr Rotating

About the role

Reporting to the unit’s Nurse Manager, the Registered Nurse works collaboratively with members of the Care Team to ensure that patients receive exceptional, high-quality, patient-centered nursing care that meets their individual needs.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct care to patients and makes necessary nursing judgments.
• Assesses the health care needs of patients for the formulation of a care plan, its implementation, and evaluation.
• Demonstrates the ability for decision-making by integrating theoretical knowledge with practical experience in caring for patients.
• Coordinates the care of patients and directs assistive personnel to provide safe, effective, efficient, equitable, and timely, patient-centered care.
• Demonstrates awareness of environmental forces on health care of patients and their families.
• Identifies resources necessary to implement the plan of care.
• Works in a collaborative relationship with other health professionals to determine healthcare needs of patients and families.
• Develops relationships with patients and families that maintain and communicate trust and respect.
• Communicates effectively in the exchange of information and acts as a patient advocate.
• Provides education planned according to the care plan and predicted Length of Stay for every patient who is alert and able to comprehend. Includes family members and caregivers in education as appropriate.
  • Participates in the development of educational materials/presentations for patients and/or significant others and documents outcome in the medical record.
  • Ensures that patients and significant others receive education regarding discharge and the community services available.
• Maintains annual mandatory education requirements, including emergency skills and unit-based competencies.
• Participates in quality improvement activities.
• Demonstrates a commitment to patients, colleagues, and the hospital by reflecting its goals in individual nursing practice.
• Participates in educational opportunities for professional growth, personal well-being, and license renewal.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required.
• Baccalaureate degree in Nursing preferred.
• 1-3 years related work experience preferred.
• Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required.
• American Heart Association – Basic Life Support Certificate required.
• ACLS required for some specific clinical units.

Department Specific Information

• Cardiology: ACLS required.
• At least one year of Telemetry experience required.
• Strong cardiology background required with ICU, Cath lab, or Stress testing experience preferred.
• RN Floats in Cardiology move between invasive and non-invasive cardiology.
• Provides nursing support for patients undergoing TEE/Cardioversion procedures, stress lab, pacer clinic, and pre-post care for cardiac Cath and EP procedures, including invasive procedural vital sign monitoring.

Physical Requirements & Environment

• Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently.
• Job is physical in nature; employee needs to stand and/or move around through the majority of their shift.
• Employees must be competent to provide patient care to one or more of the following age groups: Young adult (16-30 years), Middle Age (30-60 years), Elderly (60+ years).

Pay

The pay range for this position is $37.00 - $95.37 per hour. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, including seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices.
