About the role

Under general supervision and in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and guidelines, the Registered Nurse manages care delivery for patients throughout their length of stay to achieve quality outcomes and timely discharge. This includes utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, diagnosing, implementation, and evaluation; coordinating care provided by other professionals; delegating tasks within the scope of professional nursing practice; providing physical care as appropriate; and documenting patient responses and resource consumption.

Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

Schedule

Full-time (80 hours per pay period) | Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Nursing required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred; must obtain within 8 years of hire (as of December 29, 2013, any nurse hired without a BSN or higher nursing degree has 8 years from hire date to obtain it or employment will be terminated)
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing for the state of Michigan
  • BLS certification required by completion of core orientation
  • Critical care or Advanced Life Support (ALS) certifications may be required for some units
  • Current driver’s license in the state of Michigan and proof of insurance required for BAH

Unit-Specific Requirements

  • Bronson South Haven: All new hires must obtain their BSN within 8 years of hire date.
  • Emergency Department (Bronson South Haven):
    • SALT triage, ESI Triage, and NIH Stroke Scale to be completed within 90 days of hire
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC, required for full-time and part-time nurses) within 6 months of hire
  • Special Care Unit: PALS certification required within 6 months of hire
  • Labor & Delivery, Mother/Baby/Antepartum (BMH & BBC): Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification through PQF or NCC required within 6 months of completing intermediate fetal monitoring
  • Scrub RN:
    • Interprets procedure cards and assesses case carts for supplies prior to scheduled procedures
    • Anticipates physician needs based on operative procedure and preferences
    • Evaluates and updates case information (e.g., preference cards, equipment issues)
    • Acts as a resource for circulators on positioning devices, specialty equipment, and implants
    • Performs scrub duties across multiple services (e.g., neuro and ortho STII, including spinal fusions)
    • Responsible for after-hour call on a rotational basis
  • HDU Department: Additional on-call requirements beyond regular scheduled hours
  • Bronson Lakeview Hospital and Bronson South Haven Hospital:
    • Complete the annual Workday CBL – “Swing Beds” to understand documentation and care differences for swing bed patients
    • May be required to cover shifts at Bronson Lakeview or Bronson South Haven based on patient acuity and staffing needs

Skills

  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from computer systems and equipment to develop appropriate care plans

    • Evaluates progress toward expected outcomes and documents patient responses

Virtual Registered Nurse (VRN) Responsibilities

  • Leverages technology to deliver patient care remotely in collaboration with bedside staff
  • Core responsibilities include:
    • Conducting admission screening, patient/family education, and discharge planning
    • Performing medication dual acknowledgments
