About the role

The Practice Nursing Supervisor – Full-Time (80 hours per pay period) at Bronson Cancer Center – Battle Creek is responsible for the operations of an operating unit(s) in the Bronson Ambulatory Care. This person reports to a Manager and is responsible for the day-to-day work of the unit staff.

Responsibilities

• Hires, develops, maintains, and retains qualified staff members
• Hiring, orientation, monitoring, and evaluating performance
• Problem solving, employee counseling
• Staffing
• Payroll and budget
• Serves as a contact for internal and external customers
• Maintains a safe environment of care
• Ensures employees providing direct patient care demonstrate competencies specific to the population served
• Participates in multidisciplinary tumor conferences
• Facilitates customer service duties including addressing patient complaints
• Oversees the new patient referral process
• Oversees prior authorization processes of clinic staff
• Able to perform clinic RN duties when necessary
• Participates in cross training to provide supervision and serve as a resource for the Infusion Room
• Responsible for day to day operations / coordination of the Multidisciplinary Clinic
• Develops and maintains team involvement with the Bronson Management System
• Develops/Fosters team annual goals
• Ensures adequate staffing to deliver exceptional and safe patient care
• Evaluates the quality and appropriateness of care in area
• Reviews work in progress to ensure all treatment, medications, and diagnostic tests ordered by physicians or other providers are promptly implemented and properly recorded
• Advocates on behalf of patients and family, ensuring fair, equitable, and ethical care
• Recruits, selects, and coaches personnel to develop high-performing teams
• Maintains a safe environment in accordance with clinical standards, hospital policies, and safety regulations

Requirements

• Current Bachelors Degree of Nursing (BSN) or obtained within 3 years
• At least two years of clinical experience required
• Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing with the State of Michigan required
• Master’s Degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or other relevant field preferred
• Additional education or experience may be required depending on the area of responsibility
• Additional clinical or professional credentials or licensure may be required depending on the area of responsibility
• Oncology-specific credentials/certification preferred

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to lead a variety of people
• Demonstrated independent decision-making ability and ability to work with customers in challenging situations
• Knowledge of computerized systems including Microsoft Office suite and electronic medical record systems
• Ability to gather, interpret, communicate, and act on data to lead improvement activity
• Ability to create a culture of continuous improvement by leading problem solving, creating standard work, and organizing an effective huddle system in the area of responsibility
• Establishes effective working relationships with employees, providers, and other leaders
• Maintains the highest level of confidentiality and significant tact to handle sensitive matters effectively
• Works which produces high levels of mental/visual fatigue, e.g. interactive and repetitive or small detailed work requiring alertness and concentration for sustained periods of time
• Involves considerable standing or walking, regular lifting of lightweight objects (20 pounds or less)
• Minor straining or fatiguing positions must be assumed and some fatiguing physical motions are required
• Participates in policy formulation for area of responsibility and assists with policy formation for the overall program
• Develops and administers procedures necessary to implement approved policies and provides the overall direction needed to ensure efficient and effective services
