Registered Nurse - Day-2

Responsibilities

• Provides nursing care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Directs and leads other assigned team members, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to provide age/developmentally appropriate care.
• Provides patient-centered care addressing physical, emotional, cultural, religious, and environmental needs.
• Counsels and educates patients and families regarding their health conditions and preventive measures.
• Ensures a therapeutic environment and participates in professional governance and development.
• Delivers nursing care to inmates/detainees while following correctional facility safety and security protocols.
• Responds promptly to emergencies anywhere within the secure perimeter (medical emergencies, injuries, suicide attempts, etc.).
• Manages care in intake/booking, general population, segregation, and medical observation units.
• Collaborates with correctional officers for safe inmate movement and maintains awareness of the security environment.
• Maintains strict control and accountability of sharps, medications, and clinical tools.
• Ensures proper boundaries, communication standards, and compliance with PREA expectations.
• Documents care in accordance with correctional medical record requirements and chain-of-custody considerations when applicable.

Requirements

• Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor of Nursing preferred. RN staff hired after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree must be enrolled in a BSN program within two years and complete it within four years. Minimum one year of RN experience required.
• Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Licensure as an RN by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current AHA BLS or Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers required.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree, and a minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse required.
• Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
• Proficiency in manual dexterity and fine motor skills for tasks such as taking patient vitals, administering injections, or conducting physical exams.
• Capacity to lift and move patients or medical equipment as needed.
• Visual acuity and color perception to accurately read medical charts, documents, and monitors.
• Auditory ability to effectively communicate with patients and colleagues, as well as to perceive important sounds such as alarms or patient instructions.
• Stamina and resilience to handle the physical and emotional demands of providing patient care, including long shifts and potentially stressful situations.
• Mobility to navigate clinical environments, including moving between patient rooms, offices, and other areas of the facility.
• Compliance with infection control protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
